By the end of Act I, after Hamlet has spoken with the ghost, how would you assess the state of affairs in Denmark?
a. politically
b. morally
c. psychologically
Mr. Sullivan, my 12th grade English teacher, made us dress up in Burger King crowns and sword fight with paper towel tubes to make sense of Shakespeare's Hamlet. Here at the American School in Guadalajara we are going to use the internet instead. In the posts below, follow us as we seek to understand why this really is the greatest play in the English language.
Politically I will assess the state of affairs in Denmark with injustice. The power that belongs to Hamlet is taken away by his uncle, and no one does anything about it which shows how they dont even follow their rules.
ReplyDeleteTalking about the affairs of Denmark morally, I think there is a lot of judgment against small actions and superficial things, and there is a lot of hypocrisy among everyone specially in the high class like the nobles. They all commit errors but judge hardly the ones that come out to the light.
And finally Talking about the psychological affairs of Denmark, I think everyone believes in a moral code that should be followed strictly but also everyone breaks these rules. Everyone is looking for power and money more than anything else, even if they have to break moral rules.

a) The state of Denmark is led by a man who murdered his own brother. That shows you how far his morals thus laws go.
ReplyDeleteb) Morally its weak, i think, because no one will be able to replace the king.
c)Psychologically theres still that panic of the nerby war.

ReplyDeletea) There is political unstability, since King Hamlet was murdered by Claudius, in order to behold the throne. Also, there is a possible upcoming war with the prince of Norway if the correct decisions are not made.
b) Morally, the people of Denmark, especially the high class are superficial hypocrates, since the only thing that matters to the court´s eyes is pride and honor. The problem is that they supposedly have a strict moral code, that most don´t follow in order to get money and power.
c)Psychologically, there is a constant fear that the country might collapse, due to the upcoming war with Norway, Hamlet´s insanity and the greed for power and money of the aristocracy.
a)Politically Denmark is not doing well. The country is going to rough times with other countries and probably facing a near attack or war. The king has just been replaced and for what we’ve seen he is not the most honest and honorable person. This could bring future problems not only with other countries but with its own people.
ReplyDeleteb)Injustice and dishonesty seems to be ruling Denmark’s morality. Hamlet’s uncle just killed the king and Hamlet’s mom seems to be dishonest to herself and her family.
c)Physiologically seems that many people are being manipulated. One the people of Denmark by being fooled and abuse by the power that known it in the thrown, and another example is Ofelia that is being manipulated by her dad to no bring a bad image to the family.

a) Politically- I think that the king of Denmark is passing through a rough time I, think that it is very hard, for the new king to satisfy the people with his grace.
b) Morally- Many people in Denmark are very self-independent they try to lead their own life without seeing the rules or the laws of Denmark.
c) Psychologically- People in Denmark may feel with fear with the upcoming war, that they fought. I think that many people are very scared and try to not think about it.
a) Politically- Denmark is passing through a very hard moment, since the old king Hamlet just died they fear that they will loose war. They feel they don´t have power anymore since the king was the one who organized and gave the advices to all his people. Many of the guards doesn´t seem to like Claudius the new king.
ReplyDeleteb)Morally: Hamlet thinks that it was disguisting and bad that his mom the Queen of Denmark after one month she married his uncle. The atmosphere right now is kind of dishonest, and not dishonorable people since a very close family memeber killed the king.
c)Psychologically: There is a fear that the country will not stabilize. They are also very sad and worried about kings death. It is a stressing moment for most of them, mostly Hamlet is having a hard time because he nows that what her uncle did is really inmoral.

Politically- They have a king that murdered the other king which was his brother and the throne didint belong to him, it belonged to Hamlet. This shows only one thing, Denmark has big issues to fix.
Morally- I think they have moral issues too, Hamlets mother married hid dead husbands brother within a month of his dead, how could she do that? That is sick. The background of the royal family seems troubled, and Hamlet is the only one that knows there is something really wrong in here.
Psychologically- I think the royal family and the citizens know the country is in bad hands and that there is something more than a "snake" killing the king. I think many citizens of Denmark are expecting and fearing a sudden collapse of the entire country.
A) Politically, Denmark is having many issues, since the king was murdered and his brother married the queen. The throne really belongs to Hamlet, the son of the murdered king, but he has no power or authority to do something about it.
ReplyDeleteB) Morally, well, Denmark is at that time an incestuous country. Enough said.
No, really, its moral issues are strong, since not a month passed by from the death of his husband, but Hamlet's mother remarried, and whats even worse, with the BROTHER of his ex-husband. What an example of keeping royalty in the family, huh? And also, what a great example are these people giving to the people of Denmark.
C) Psychologically, people are scared. If not scared, they don't want to find out the real truth about the murder of the king. The phrase "ignoracne is bliss" fits perfectly to this situation, and the people of Denmark just want everything to be stable again.
a)pollitically-the king of denmark is passing to a really dificult time and he is trying to gain the power they had before the murder of the king.
ReplyDeleteb)morally- is really bad because its amazing that after the murder of the king the qeen finds someone else really fast to married.this showed that the love that the king and the qeen had were type of dishonest and fake.
c)phychologically-all of the people are really concered and worried about the death of the king, and now they are seeing how Denmark can come to an end.

politicaly: Denmark is going through a hard time since their old king had just died a few days before. They are fearful to have another war with Norway because they aint prepare to have one. The good thing is that they are trusting in the new king to mantain order.
morally: Hamlet is really dissapointed with
his mom because she married his uncle a month his father just died. He thinks a lot but never expresses his concerns.
phychologically: people are scared to have a new kig. They dont know what will happen to Denmark and they are not reall believing in the story of the snake killing the old king.
Politically: Denmark is struggling with the murder of the King, the arrival of a new one and war knocking on their door.
ReplyDeleteMorally: Denmark is ruled by a murderer. How can someone rule a country, punish bad people, and at the same time act like any other robber, murderer? This is called hypocricy.
psychologically: People are worried of what will happen next because war is comming.

a) There is political unstability in the way King Hamlet was killed by Hamlet's uncle who tricked the people by creating the kings death and there is a king who has unstability who has more problems to be watching.
ReplyDeleteb) Morally I think the people of Denmark dont give much attention to what happened with the king. The high monarchy and people with power dont care for the people, they just care for the power they have and the power they will get with the new king Claudius.
c)Psychologically I think the high class people didn't change but the low class people might be more worried looking at the kings that worries about smaller problems and isnt paying attention to their future.

a)Politcally: The state of Denmark is governed by a man who murdered his own brother. This shows how their laws are not enforced.
ReplyDeleteb) Morally: I can say the same exact phrase, The state of Denmark is governed by a man who murdered his own brother. Where is the moral?
c)Psychologically: Panic is a word inside evreybodys mind beacuse of the war coming up.
