Mr. Sullivan, my 12th grade English teacher, made us dress up in Burger King crowns and sword fight with paper towel tubes to make sense of Shakespeare's Hamlet. Here at the American School in Guadalajara we are going to use the internet instead. In the posts below, follow us as we seek to understand why this really is the greatest play in the English language.

ReplyDeleteYes ive been in situations in which I have no idea which decision to make. One big example was 8th grade when i wanted to leave to another school. Some friends were over there and it is known to be a fun school. Not with a high ranking but you have fun. I thought about this a lot. Did the examn for the school was eventually accepted but decided after lots of advice to stay at this school. I think Hamlet is being too hard on himself, he stresses about evreything in life. he over thinks every detail way too many times.
I had never been in a situation of severe indesicion because I analyze whats my best option, pros and cons, ive had indesicion but never in this situation. I think Hamlet is a person that thinks way too much, its good to think and check twice or even three times all the options but he thinks in them again and again and again, that makes him come back to the indesicion, his mechanism doesnt solve his problem. Yes he is being to hard on himself, and hard on the rest of the people, for example Polonius, why did he kill him, he is guilty but nothing in comparison of Claudius, that wasnt nice.

Yes I have been in a situation of severe indecision, when you dont know what to do, or if wat you are going to do is the best decision. Sometimes when you think that what you are doing is right, then afeter you did it you realized it was wrong. Well, I think that Hamlet is being too hard on himself, but he is doing it in the correct way. A dad´s murder is not an event that you could possibly forget in a few months. He wants Claudius to feel so miserable, that way he will fill satisfiy doing what his father wanted.

Yes Ive had a severe time of indecision and its just happening to me right now . Since 7th grade I wanted to change to another school and now that Im accepted to that school Im feeling scared. I dont know If I should stay or go. Its making me suffer. Hamlet is being hard with himself and with everyone else. He made Ophelia cry and even killed Polonious.

I have benn un many situations of severe indecision. When I was younger I had to decide to either stay in my other school or come here. My parents told me that I could take that decision. It was very hard because I was very young and I didn't want to leave my last school's friends, but I thougt this school was better and provided better opportunities. I think Hamlet took the right decision in not killing his uncle but he wants revenge, and a more cruel punishment is the one he's planning now with better detail, but he must start acting now.

ReplyDeleteI have never find myself in times of severe indecision. I think that in order to make a decision, you need to analyze it. If it brings the desired results, then the decision should be made. If by any reason the result turns out to be negative, then you need to accept the consequences. Besides, you knew it could have turned out like that.Next time, if you find yourself in a similar situation, you can now make the correct decision. In Hamlet´s case, I think he he has taken the analyzing part to an extreme. I could even think he is chickening out because he has had the opportunity to make his revenge. Its understandable that he is confused because there is a lot of tension and anger in his sytem. That is why he can´t make his mind fully and basically screwing up everything.
Yes, Ive been in a situation of severe indecision when in a friday night they invite me to two diferent partie. I think Hamlet is being very hard on himslef, I think he should think only one time and do it, instead of being so indecise.

Yes, I’ve been in the situation of indecision many times. Sometimes things can be as simple as deciding what to wear for school or for a party, but it still takes a lot of time. But others times decisions are much harder. Making decisions that can change many situations or can change your life are hard to make. In my opinion many times thinking times twice or for a long time is not wrong. Most of the times when you think things over you will get a good result. But there are other situations when you don’t need to think things so much or you don’t have the time and need to make a decision fast.

I have been in many times of severe indesicion, but i think it is always for the best. Last year I was about to change schools, but at the last minute I decided to stay at the ASFG. Now I can't imagine myself being in another school. Being cautions when making desicions is vital , since one decision can change your whole life around. Hamlet is not being too hard on himself, because he needs to be cautious because with one false move, everything he planned goes to waste., so it is good for him to take his time and think through every situation.
ReplyDeleteYes I have been in many situations in which I have no idea what to do, but I am definatly not as hard on myself as Hamlet is to himself. He needs to just relax and not worry so much. You really need to just think about everything very cautiously but not so much that you end up driving yourself crazy.

Yes is have been in a situation of sever indecision, I didn´t know what to do , moslty of the times it takes place with a friend or someone you care about and sometimes you may finish in a fight or segregated cause you didnt do the right thing. There was a friend who wanted me to go to trip with him but I already had my plans at the end I didn´t go with him and he finished angry with me.

Hamlet is not being too hard on himself. I think that the murder of your father can not be forgotten with just knowing who was responsible of it and by taking revenge. It takes time to one: figuring out what was what really happen and two: to realize that revenge is going to be what his uncle did to his father. Besides the situation itself becomes more complicated as Hamlet accumulates hate towards Claudius. This way with more hate revenge will may result more satisfactory.

Well, i have never been as indecise as Hamlet is, but considering his choice is taking a life or not i think i would be as indecise as him.. or even more haha. He is just making sure that the "ghost" wasn't lying to him and that in fact is was his father's ghost talking to him.

Sorry mr i was in chapala and i didnt had internet over there so i just got home.
ReplyDeleteI had never in these type of situation but when i am close to this type of situatin i fell really indecide. Because i would be in the same situation as him talking with the ghost, better known as his father.

I've been in a situation of indecision when I had to take the SAT subject tests last week. I wasn't completely confident about them and felt like taking them might be shooting myself in the foot.
ReplyDeleteI think Hamlet is not being too hard on himself. HIs indecision is justified because all the thinking he is doing will lead him to the right decision. Because of all the thought he is putting into it, he won't make a mistake and will therefore have a preferable outcome. Claudius is always going to be there for Hamlet to kill him, so Hamlet can take his time to make up his mind.

yes, ive been in a myriad of moments of severe indesicion. Somete stuff, sometimes desicions that could change my life. i think Hamlets is being too hard on himself, since that is the way he thinks and acts. It is something he cant avoid so he shouldnt reproach about the way he has been forever.
