To what extent do parents have the right to “spy” or check up on their children?  What circumstance might allow or prevent this?  Do Claudius and Gertrude have the right to spy on Hamlet?

  1. I think parents have the right to "spy" their children in a normal way. I mean depending the age and the maturity that their children have. Anyway they should trust theu child, so that way both of them (parents and son/daugther) will be happy. They are some parents who exagerate, that is really bad because they should let them be of course with some limitations and rules. Claudius does not have the right to spy on HAMLET because he is not his father, her mother kind of because Hamlet is her her son, but Hamlet is a adult and he knows perfectly what he should do.

I think parents should or shouldn't spy on the children depending on him. Whether he is bad or good ebough to trust him. I think they shouldn't spy on them because they all need to have privacy and be trustworthy. Parents who spy really don't trust their childs and they may lose confidence from their parents. I think that Claudius and Gertrude should spy on Hamlet because he is acting very weird these last days and they want to know more about want is that has happen to him.

  3. I think family members should never reach a point in which they should spy on each other. A family is supposed to be free from lies and suspicion. Therefore trust should at its peak. Tne problem is that in family relationships there´s ups and downs. So there can be moments in which trust, that has been built up through a long period of time, can be lost, depending on how big lies and dissapointment is. Taking this in consideration, I think parents have ths right to spy on their children if they have proven to be untrustworthy liers. In other words, it depends on the son. If he is mature and trustworthy, there is no need to spy on him. In the case of Hamlet, I think Claudius and Gertrude don´t have the right to spy on him, since he is an adult, who knows what is right an wrong. Besides Gertrude and Claudius have their own skeletons in the closet.

  7. Parents have no right at all to spy on their children, unless the spying is justified by the fact that a live is at risk, which would be the case of drug abuse or psychological disorder. I believe parents should not spy on children. Instead, they should learn to trust children as children must learn to trust parents. Parents are trying to teach the value of trust, yet by spying they only prompt children to not trust and even dislike them. Only in extreme circumstances might parents be able to justify spying on their children. In the case of Claudius and Gertrude, they have absolutely no right to spy on Hamlet because nobody's life is at risk if Hamlet is or is not in love with Ophelia. Spying leads to more confusion and misunderstanding.

  8. I think that parents have the right to spy on their children if their kids have actions that makes parents not trust on them. If they know that their children are rebels. Many times is normal for parents to try and know where their kids are or what are they doing. Most of the time when kids start their adolescence is when most of the spying takes place because it is when kids start to grow up and experience new things. But it becomes not normal when they start using all the new technology equipments to spy on their kids. To try and control every movement their kids do. I don’t think that Claudius and Gertrude have the right to spy on Hamlet because he is an adult and he knows perfectly what he is doing.

  9. I think it really depends. If its a kid that has prooven to be a terrible kid then yes, when they are risking their lifes its very important to keep them checked but if they prooved to be responsible in most areas and dont arrive drunk to their houses or in another complex situation its wrong if they are spying on him or her. it depends on the actions and the magnitude of the things the kids to that make the parents take action. (in most of the cases at least.) I think Claudius and Gertrude are concenrned in the extreme behavioral change of Hamlet. If it was for his own good it would be okay to spy on him but i doubt that Claudius intentions want to help him.

  10. I thik parents should have the right to spy on their children depending on the type of children they have. If they know they need to be looking after they child who causes a lot of problems or is acting in a rare way, they should have the right to spy on him just to make shure everything is going alright. Cladius and Gertrude shouldnt be spying on Hamlet I think he has a proper age to look after himself and to do what he wants to do with his life.

  11. I think every parent has spied on their children at least once in their lives. It is a common thing to do, parents care for their children but I don’t think it should get to an extreme of invading their privacy. It also depends a lot the way your child is. If it is a mature child I don’t think a parent should doubt a lot. They should trust their children. I know there are some cases when parents do need to doubt and spy on their children, but I don’t think it is a good thing to do. I don’t think Claudius and Gertrude have the right to spy on Hamlet. He is a grown up and he has the right to do what he pleases too. He has been acting weird, but he has a reason for it.

  12. I think parents dont have the right to spy on their children if the child has not given any reason for the parent to spy. If my son acted wierd for a while I would try to talk things out and if his behaviour continues then I would maybe ask his friends but not literally spy on him. It really depends on the situation and the things a child might be involved in. Problems with teenagers can get very serious and parent intervention might be needed. Claudius and Gertrude should have talked things better with Hyamlet first before spying on him.

  13. I don't agree when parents spy on their kids. If there is no reason to spy on them, then parents should let the privacy of their kids. On the other hand, when you suspect that your son is using drugs or things like these, then it's valid to look through their stuff to find out, or ask a friend, but never to put a secret chip on the car to see where they are. Relationships are based on trust.
I think it's valid that Hamlet's father is spying on him because Hamlet is acting really really weird.

  14. i think there needs to be a good balance between trusting your child and spying on them. It is a matter of knowing how your child is and acts when the parents are not around. Sometimes it is good for children to have their own space and be independent. If parents think their kids are doing drugs or hanging out with bad influences, then it is ok. It is all about perspective and how much the parents are willing to trust their kids. Spying on Hamlet seems like a resonable thing to do since he is acting very strange, and when a kid is in danger, its parents' duty is to make sure everything is flowing fine.

  15. Every parent has the right to spy on their children. They have educate you the way they like, they have teach you what is right and what ir wrong. If your parents see that something is going wrong they have the right to spy on you and see if everything is under control. Your parents have to trust you... they need to understand you and see what you like and what you dont but if they see something is wrong they have the right to spy on you
